Why eToro?

eToro was created in 2007 as a social trading platform and multi-asset brokerage company that focuses on providing financial and copy trading services. Over fourteen years, the company has seen many more iterations of its online trading, as its goal had the company set out to make trading accessible to anyone, anywhere, and reduce dependency on traditional financial institutions.

Throughout the past decade, the company introduced many features, eventually evolving the platform into the eToro we know today. In 2010, it paired its WebTrader with OpenBook to create a social trading platform, allowing everyone around the world to follow and copy other successful traders using the innovative CopyTraderTM feature.

Then in 2013, a wide selection of stocks were added to the trading scene alongside commodities, currencies, and other assets. By 2017, cryptocurrencies were added to the platform, allowing clients to invest in popular cryptos such as Bitcoin and Litecoin. eToro has stated that they have begun to serve the US market via their unique online cryptocurrency offerings. eToro continues to change the way markets are traded.

How it Works

With eToro’s CopyTrader, you can automatically copy top-performing traders and instantly replicate their trading in your own portfolio. This is a simple process to set up as well, with three main and easy steps.

You start by choosing a trader that works best for you via searching by a traders performance, assets, risk score, and more. Next, you choose a set amount for the copies that you would like to purchase and the proportions are calculated automatically. You can even set a minimum copy limit so that automatic copying is stopped if it drops below a certain limit. As a final step, all you have to do is click the copy button, and you automatically start copying the trader’s positions.

My Involvement on eToro

I’ve been involved in the finance industry since I was a teenager, starting a personal trading portfolio which generated 158% in its first year. From there, I decided to dedicate myself to the world of finance and have spent my entire career in financial services. After graduating from university with First Class Honors in Business, I worked for Thomson Reuters for six years as a Fund Analyst, eventually being promoted to Team Leader, and finally a Wealth Management expert & Lipper Leader for Europe West.
